The Archives is creeping toward the twentieth century… just before it becomes the twenty-first! For you computer and Internet savvy patrons out there, you’ll be happy to know we now have an e-mail address and, as time permits, we’re working toward our own home page!
You can reach us electronically by addressing mail to info@claycountyarchives.org. We are using our e-mail capabilities now by "surfing" the net looking for genealogical inquires for Clay County ancestors (usually on the U.S. Genweb site). Once we glean the ones we want to respond to, we send e-mail to tell the inquirers what types of information we have, how much the information costs and a research policy letter. Once they reply by snail mail (the U. S. Postal Service) to send their research request and a check to cover the costs, we’ll do the research and send the material to them. If (when) the volume of electronic business increases, we may look into honoring Discover credit cards and bypass the Postoffice entirely.
The first step toward a web site will be to just have an Internet presence which will have a link from the U. S. Genweb Clay County page. Once we are "out there" with a generic web site, we’ll then add more content. In the future we plan to have pages outlining our research policies, lists of our holdings & recent acquisitions, upcoming events, tidbits of Clay County history, information about volunteers, this newsletter, membership and many other things.
Get your browsers ready to surf on over. If you want to e-mail us (so we can have your e-mail address) we’ll pass along our URL and let you know when we are ready to receive guests!
